Chiropractic is a science, art, and philosophy that studies the relationship between the nervous system and the health of the body.
As a science: Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that the nervous system controls the function of every part of the body down to the smallest cells. The brain is protected by the skull. The spinal cord is more vulnerable and is covered by 24 moving vertebrae. When these bones are no longer in their normal position or motion, they can irritate the nervous system. This irritation can cause disruption in the organs that the nerves control and is called the vertebral subluxation complex.
Chiropractic is the science of locating these areas of spinal malfunction, the art of correcting them and the philosophy of leaving things natural.
As an art: Specific care programs are designed for every patient based on their examinations and health history. These specific care programs include chiropractic adjustments. There are hundreds of ways to use carefully directed and controlled pressure to restore spinal bones to a natural position and motion. With improved spinal function, improved health and nervous system function can follow.
Years of training turn chiropractic doctors into experts at using the right force in the right direction. This may require a quick thrust at some instances or a slow and constant pressure at others.
As a philosophy: Chiropractors recognize the fact that doctors can’t heal, only the body can heal itself. The main goal of a chiropractic doctor is to reduce interference to your inborn healing ability.
